The Four Commandments for the Perfect Fit

If you've ever been stuck on what to wear on any given day, I feel you. It's not an easy task stringing together seemingly well thought out and intricately pieced together outfits that are also comfortable. What follows are my go-to, holy grail steps for the process of picking an outfit.

Step 1: Set the Mood

The first thing to do when coming up with an outfit idea it to explore your mood. There is nothing worse than wearing an outfit that you truly aren't in the mood to wear. Finding the right outfit to match your mood ensures comfort. To do this, I use apps like Pinterest and Instagram to help me tap into my inner mood. Creating different boards for different moods makes the process of finding inspiration quick and smooth.

Step 2: Create Structure

No, were not stuffing tissue in bras or starch-ironing clothes for this one. Structure in this sense means the type of clothing you're wearing. This is when you decide if you want to wear jeans or pants? Dress or skirt? Heels or sneakers? It may seem little, but this small decision will maximize comfort and provide a basis for the look your going for.

Step 3: Build

Ok. You have set the mood and have decided on the basic structure of your outfit, now it is time to build on that. The following are a list of scenarios and possible choices of attire:

1. Going to the mall for a chill day with some friends.
You've set the mood at a warm 78 degree "I'm comfy cute but can also be snap worthy at any moment." Distressed jeans, tied up graphic tee or hoodie, comfy chic sneakers, layer up the jewelry, and a hands-free/shopper- friendly mini backpack.

2. Semi casual night out with your SO for dinner and a movie.

The key here is to accentuate what the good lord gave you! If you're top heavy, opt for a lower cut shirt. If you've got booty, opt for skinny jeans. For those of you who are blessed with both, try the mix with high waisted bottoms for a nice hourglass shape. My go to: High waisted skinny jeans, shoulder baring top, small heel, mini handbag. Flirty and fun are key in this department, but most importantly confidence and comfort.

3. Party.
It's a 99.999 degree, super hot fire "I'm a bad $*%!#" night. Pull out those daring heels and the skin tight number. Its time for a masterpiece of ensembles. In this scenario, although its time to go all out, still keep in mind practicality. You don't want to be taking off your heels in pain, pulling down your dress every fine minutes, or worrying about nip slips or sweat stains showing. Keep in mind the venue and activities accompanying the night. My choice: statement heel, mini skirt, bombshell bodysuit with a matching wristlet for small, but necessary belongings.

Step 4: Accessorize
Last, but not least, we accessorize. This step gives the finishing polish to any outfit. You have full range here. If its a day full of adventures, a mini backpack is perfect. Birthday dinner? Try a nice chain purse. Strapless tops allow space for my personal favorite: big hoops. Fancy statement earrings are perfect for important dinners or events. One necklace can be a bit plain; change it up with layering two or three. Coats, overlays, dusters, blazers, jackets; the options are endless for top layers (and don't skimp on the colors here either). Fishnets under jeans are one of my favorite trends as well. Rings, bracelets, belts, and hats all make or break an outfit. Even something as simple as a coat of paint on your nails can add a final touch to the fit.

Once you have followed these steps, you'll be sure to walk out in an outfit 100% you!
